News: McDonald's Parade Announcer
Toasty Weather Brings Chicagoans and Toastmasters Together CHICAGO, IL, November 20, 2006. For the first time in parade history, McDonald's Thanksgiving parade attendees can stand anywhere along the parade route and learn about the floats and people passing by. Official Parade Announcers, representing Toastmasters International, the world's largest public speaking organization, will wear "Toastmasters" sashes and be easily identified. Positioned at four, 5' tall stages from Congress to Monroe, these Announcers will provide live information and commentary between the myriad of marching bands, colorful floats and giant helium balloons. With the warmest weather predicted in 40 years, Announcers will handily work with 60-70 Parade Ambassadors on the ground, orchestrating audience participation beginning with 'THE WAVE' down the parade route. Professional speaker and Announcer, Lisa Loverde said, "With the unseasonably warm weather predicted, we will all be toasty, warm, and ready to share our Thanksgiving spirit! Toastmasters embrace this unique opportunity to interact with the crowd and demonstrate how, as Announcers, we can bring 350,000 Chicagoans together as a community and take the parade experience to a higher level." Loverde envisions parade watchers joining the fun by "rating" the floats with jumping jacks, high fives, rhythmic clapping, foot stomping, and the like. Joined by Charles Brooks at the Monroe Street Stage, this dynamic speaking duo will encourage cheers from "Hip, hip, hooray!" and "Booyah!" to the famous military "Hooah!". A life-long Chicagoan, Loverde began speaking as a high school volunteer, hosting an internally televised game show show at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Today, she motivates corporate audiences and as an event emcee, recently helped raise over $100,000 for the Business Marketing Association (BMA) of Chicago. Brooks and Loverde are known for their singing, dancing, and playful banter. Brooks, a master at steppin', sung for Glory to Glory Family Christian Center and New Life Baptist Church. Loverde, a talented swing dancer, sung for The Choral Ensemble of Chicago and St. Michael's Church in Old Town. Brooks said, "We plan to give you a play-by-play description of what is happening. Not only will you see these magnificent floats and marching bands but you will learn a bit about who they are and where they come from. You will also learn about Toastmasters, the world's premiere speaking organization that helps individuals build strong leadership and communication skills." Brooks hopes the Toastmasters' presence at the parade will inspire the public to join the self-improvement organization, which has 3,300 members in Chicagoland, and 210,000 members in over 90 countries across the globe.
