2007 Leadership Excellence Award
News: Announcer Makes Big Plans

Parade to Feature Announcers Along the Parade Route
First Time Ever for Thanksgiving Parade

CHICAGO, IL, November 15, 2006. For the first time in parade history, Official Parade Announcers at the McDonalds Thanksgiving Parade will provide live information and commentary from four, 5' tall stages positioned along the parade route. The stages, spanning Congress to Monroe, will be hosted by speakers representing Toastmasters International, the world's largest public speaking organization.

Phil Purevich, Executive Director of the Chicago Festival Association, said, "This unique Toastmasters partnership will allow us to enhance the opportunity for the spectator at the parade. By providing on-site live commentary, the person at the parade knows everything viewers are hearing as they watch the parade at home on television. This makes the experience that much better than it has been in the past... it is the best enhancement we've had in years."

Toastmasters plans to showcase Chicago's best public speakers and increase awareness of its organization. Speakers ranging in expertise from bi-lingual skills to voiceover and radio talent, will share the mic at three of the stages, while two celebrated locals, Lisa Loverde and Charles Brooks, will delight crowds at the Monroe Street Stage.

Award-winning professional speaker, emcee, and life-long Chicagoan, Lisa Loverde uses her speaking talent to motivate audiences to achieve success. Profiled in the new book, Yes You Can! Behind The Hype and Hustle of the Motivation Biz, author Jonathan Black says Loverde, "does a terrific job of involving the audience," and the Parade should prove no exception. Loverde said, "This is an opportunity to interact with 350,000 Chicagoans, and to re-engineer the parade experience, beginning at 8:00am, when we attempt to do 'THE WAVE' all the way down the parade route!" Seeking recognition as a world-class speaker, Loverde aspires to win the "World Champion of Public Speaking" title, which only three women have won since Toastmasters opened its doors to women in 1973. Winners of this annual competition achieve global recognition, and command speaking fees upwards of $10,000.

Charles Brooks, community volunteer and aspiring professional public speaker, will complement Loverde's dynamic presence with his smooth voice and gentle demeanor. Dedicated to mentoring children and working for the permanency of children in child welfare, Brooks has been recognized for his work with The Village Investment project. Awarded Toastmaster of the Year, Charles hopes the Toastmasters' presence at the parade will inspire the public to join the self-improvement organization, which has 3,300 members in Chicagoland, and 210,000 members in over 90 countries across the globe.
